    I feel like this game starts off on the wrong foot if the goal was to introduce new players to the genre. Starting with Rosella's chapter first would have made a lot more sense because in Chapter 2 you have several NPCs to provide hints, one gives you a list of items, and there's no looping areas to get lost and die in. Valanice starts with no direction apart from FIND ROSELLA, which she doesn't do until the end of the game, and no sign posting apart from just wandering aimlessly. But the reason they had to force this as the first chapter is because they insisted on switching between the two characters and end with Rosella and her chapter is an even one.

    In my playthrough I first approached the village from the side where the sub was, so I was able to go down the ladder and flip the switch to keep the heater on before the water ever closed. Once I finished the game and read though the guide, I was quite surprised that there was even a puzzle there. 😅 I was operating on puzzle game logic: the ladder and switch wouldn't have been there if you weren't supposed to flip it at some point, even if I didn't entirely realise what it was for at first.

      I did that too, my first time around. Then I was like, "wait, what does that switch actually do?" So I messed around with it until I realized it kept the heater on. In the LP I deliberately went the other direction in the sub so that would be a bit clearer (and also so I could show the linking room before we had all the symbols).

    i think, like how Rivenese water microbes do whatever they can to avoid heat, the Stranger does whatever they can to avoid getting wet. on another note, i had to stop watching before episode 5 (fitting) because i actually ended up being able to afford the game, started watching again after beating it myself, when you'd uploaded episode 11. loved it, and also loving watching your playthrough as well!

    Omg, it showed Peter Falk as the narrator, but it's not actually Peter Falk? You made me excited and heartbroken in a single moment. I've been watching a lot of Columbo recently. :) Also, the animation is one of the big reasons I didn't buy this game when it came out. The cutesy Disney facade that works in snapshots, completely falls away after watching more than one frame at a time. I wasn't a huge fan of the Disney-wannabe aesthetic compared to the previous games, even before seeing the dreadful animation. It seriously reminds me of CD-i Zelda cutscenes every time I watch it. *Shudder* KQ6 is definitely the definitive KQ game, IMO. KQ3 had a really cool premise that led up to it. The sneaking element was really interesting in that too.

When i started playing this series I had no one to talk to about it, even my other gamer friends didn't play this series, but I feel like you've been great company for all of us in this lonely, puzzling life. I'm looking forward to seeing you explore Tay in a later episode. It's been 27 long years, but the ending is not yet written!

    I assumed that the first symbol you found in this video was some kind of jumping insect, but you're probably right that it's a butterfly. The cave with a door under the lake must have been patched at some point, as Josh George recounts in his review on how he drowned in one playthrough when the door opened and the water came rushing in to kill him.

    Nelah probably knows Catherine by that name, else she'd have read that note, tilted her head, and asked her: "...why did you not sign this with your name?" Also, THANK YOU HODOR! (Wait . . . wrong universe.) Um, yes. The door. THE DOOR. The second I saw you uploaded Episode 1 of this series, my first thought was: "PLEASE let us be allowed to explore the tree." That was the one of the two major disappointments I had in this game (the second being the one I mentioned in the comments of the last episode). I'm so thrilled.

      @@micahbush5397 I'd argue that unless the writing format is vastly different than our own, Nelah would still be able to identify that the final word in the message is Catherine's signature and would thus be puzzled that she doesn't recognize at least that. But I suppose we'd have to see Nelah write a letter to really be sure what she'd be able to intuit.

    It would be pretty funny if they added a nonstandard Game Over if you stayed too long in the water hole. Like it closes up, you're underwater for five seconds, then you see a whark approaching (horrifying in VR) and then you get a reload screen.

Then the fixes finally filter through to production, get deployed by a 5-spoked version of Gehnbernetes… It takes time, man ;-)

    I've seemed to had a variety of thoughts while watching along this time, each their own separate thing. Really just things that I was pondering as I saw them coming by I guess. The first being on the fish swimming down question, it is quite strange and the only two branches of thought seem to make potential sense. Either the microorganisms in the water are for some reason moving upwards around this particular fish, but not the other fish types, but in any case in flowing so is forcing the fish to swim against this flow. Or perhaps they might be some kind of particularly specialized bottom feeding fish, and so they are always scanning the ground for food. Or rather they might have evolved to the point where this is simply their normal orientation then. I guess This could make some sense considering the traps for these fish are all being placed at the bottom facing upwards, so clearly aiming for a fish that swims down. Another thought of mine is back to your guess of that symbol on the tree representing a beetle, which now in hindsight seems far better then my guess it could actually be a tree. Especially now that I've see the symbols again in the underground room. It's hard to argue that they wouldn't all be representing animals on those pillars, especially as they all seem to have a mark for an eye. Ah well, so it goes while guessing with puzzles I guess. Also quite interesting that the Rivenese have a linking book hidden behind the water that seems to work with out needing a large power support system, though possibly it does need that crystal to work. If it does, I suppose one would speculate it filters or corrects for something. Or thinking about it more deeply, it seems a little unusual that you'd create a special channel for light from above in this cavern if there was no purpose, perhaps it filters that light for something to help the linking book work better. Lastly, I've been wondering this for quite awhile now, but where did all these extremely large tools come from? At least one seems like a Rivenese type weapon but ridiculously oversized. And it seems a bit dubious the Rivenese would have just stuck such an item there... though who knows for sure I guess. I suppose it is interesting that the Rivenese tool is on their main island and the Daggers are if I recall correctly on Gehn's islands. If that is the pattern I guess in some way it must be deliberate... though it seems like an odd things to do for either group. As in, I struggle to find a particular purpose to it beyond being particularly expensive way of marking. Still... no other purpose or reasonable origin for them has come to mind for me so far.

      The books (which describe how Atrus and Catherine trapped Gehn here and why) also explain the origin of the giant knives... somewhat. Spoiler below. They're written into the Age by Catherine as part of an attempt to unsettle and scare both the villagers and Gehn, as part of a rescue of Atrus. (I might have some details wrong, it's been quite a while since I read the books.) Interestingly, this seems to break one of the fundamental rules of linking books as far as we know them now -- while you can make changes in the book that affect the real world, large changes to areas visible to observers should have broken the link (such that it would link to a different world that more closely resembles the changes). To get around that, she must have written them out in space (where nobody could prove they hadn't always been there) and had them rain down like meteors. But she was known to be quite unconventional in her use of the Art.

      Knowing that the tree symbol is the beetle comes from the original game, where the symbols were explicitly linked to animals by sound as well as the symbol. And this symbol was associated with the sound of the beetle (which you can still hear in this version when the beetle on the gate into the jungle flies away).

    44:24 Huh, I never noticed that the crest on the cover actually depicted a face. Maybe it's supposed to be Ri'neref, whose face is also depicted on the floor of the chamber in K'veer?

      Some have suggested that it's Lord Rakeri, the original owner of the K'Veer mansion, as the normal-map textures on the corners, used to give graphically-inexpensive depth (i.e. metal stamping) to them, has his name on them.

    I suggest making “on the frottom” an actual word! “Look at this spoiler on the frottom of your car!” “There’s something on the frottom of your shirt”. It has a nice ring to it

    34:08 I wonder how it was engineered that the book could protrude like that and the skylight open at exactly the same time. I imagine it would require significant expertise to make that happens at exactly the right time and in such a dramatic way.

    The "butterfly" symbol looks more like a katydid to me. Also, how on earth did someone paint all those symbols? I can understand the fish on the cliff walls, but the symbol in the chimney must have been a pain to paint.
